KFC releases halal bak kwa for CNY, available in its special burger and fried chicken
In just three more weeks, we’ll be entering the season of red packets and yu sheng again.
Chinese New Year always means plenty of hearty feasts, catching up with relatives, indulging in snacks and gambl… I mean, playing family-friendly card and/or tile games.
But if there’s one thing that we look forward to, it’s fresh bak kwa. If you’ve tried all the usual suspects, here’s a new option to consider: KFC’s brand-new halal bak kwa!
Bak kwa slices, burgers & chicken
Made with chicken, KFC’s first-ever halal bak kwa slices will be available at S$2.95 per slice and can be enjoyed by guests of all cultural backgrounds.
There will also be limited-time specials, including two unique mains that will be loaded up with bak kwa bits.
The first is the chicken bak kwa burger — a spin on KFC’s classic Zinger burger. It features familiar sesame buns, mayonnaise, lettuce, and a crispy Zinger filet, jazzed up with a smoky seasoning and topped up with decadent bits of KFC’s new halal bak kwa.
The Colonel is also offering a unique take on the signature finger lickin’ good fried chicken, in the form of the chicken bak kwa Crunch.
This special uses the brand’s signature fried chicken as the base, topping it with smoky seasoning and morsels of KFC’s halal bak kwa to give it an extra satisfying crunch.
To top it all off, sweet potato criss-cut fries can be enjoyed, too, as a nice sweet-savoury complement to the heavy, bak-kwa-filled line-up.
The limited-time offerings can be found at all KFC stores from Jan 24 to Feb 22, excluding its Singapore Polytechnic, Sentosa and Singapore Zoo outlets.
The bak kwa slices will also not be available at the Gek Poh Ville, Jalan Bukit Merah, Jalan Mas Puteh, Serangoon Central East, Jurong East II, and Buangkok outlets.
Free red packets
Besides the new halal bak kwa line-up, KFC will also have free red packets up for grabs. Sadly, they don’t come with money in them.
However, these limited-edition red packets do come with adorable little motifs including ingots and gold coins.
They are also etched with the classic greeting of “大吉大利” (great luck and great profit), but with a bucket of chicken playfully put in place of “吉”, which is a near-homonym of the Mandarin word for chicken.
All you have to do is spend S$10 and above at any KFC outlet from Jan 24 onwards, while stocks last.
