Another Bar sets itself apart with vibrant IG-worthy aesthetics and Taylor Swift-inspired cocktails
“Hey, wanna go to another bar after this?” Is probably something you hear regularly on your boozy nights out with friends.
Well, that sentence has a double meaning now: There’s a new IG-worthy opening in town and it’s actually named Another Bar — talk about a cheeky name.
The new bar is located at Rendezvous Hotel near the bar-littered Prinsep Street, opens till 3am and is quite a stunner, decor-wise.
Its entrance is marked with brightly lit signs that cover the walkway with a deluge of orange and when you step inside, you are greeted with even sleeker aesthetics.
Unlike what its name suggests, Another Bar’s IG-worthy interior is not like any other generic watering hole.
It’s vibrant and youthful, embellished with trendy neon signs, eye-catching scrolling LED displays, glitzy disco ball fixtures, and punctuated with oodles of sharp orange as its main tone.
It’s the quirky little details — such as a cloth sack with the words “emotional baggage” emblazoned on it, and a neon sign sporting lyrics from Taylor Swift’s Look What You Made Me Do — that make it so charming.
More than just eye-candy, the bar also features beer pong tables, a free selfie-printing machine and a shiny DJ console to ensure the vibes are constantly fun and lively.
Not just another bar grub menu, too
The “not just eye-candy” label extends to beyond the set up — Another Bar’s food options are surprisingly good, especially for a place that’s primed itself up to be a fun carousing destination.
Some great drinking accompaniments include the shrimp paste chicken wing (S$22) — six hulking chicken wings with the most gratuitous crackle on the outside and plenty of juicy tenderness on the inside.
Add a dollop of the accompanying sambal on top of that, for a healthy dose of spice and flavour and you have peak booze grub on your hands.
Another Bar also does some pretty damn solid Japanese classics, too.
For example, there’s the tsukune (Japanese chicken meatball skewers, S$14 for two pieces) topped with teriyaki tare, togarashi and served with egg yolk.
Bouncy, succulent and flavourful and gets extra silky when dipped in the egg yolk — this could be on par with what they serve at some of the authentic izakayas out there.
In the same vein, Another Bar’s spicy sesame miso chashu ramen (S$22) is equally fabulous. The noodles are springy and the chashu is lovingly torched with a plush, luscious texture, but the broth is the star.
Slightly spicy, but also chock full of umami and the most delightful sesame fragrance, the broth is so comforting that we slurped it all up and considered ordering a second portion.
Smashable cocktails
That said, Another Bar is still a bar, after all, so the booze matters just as much — if not more — for a good time.
The drinks menu is diverse and includes beers, wines, sakes, liquor, but the cocktails are what jump out to us, with quirky creations such as the Taylor-Swift-inspired The Tortured Poet’s Drink (S$24) and Not So Cruel Summer (S$24).
If you’re feeling a bit bougie, go for the former, which features tequila and lemon and is topped with a layer of red wine. The overall profile is simple and tart with a nice bit of complexity — very smashable and that splash of wine is very on-theme for a “tortured poet’s drink”.
For more visually unique tipples, the Another (S$24) and I Hate My Boss (S$24) will probably fit nicely onto your Instagram feeds, as both come adorned with edible rice paper.
The latter is a very easy-to-down whiskey sour twist that is smooth, citrusy and has enough of that whisky oomph to help you through those days where you truly, truly hate your boss.
As for the latter, the combination of gin, pineapple, lemon and elderflower makes for a very elegant and vibrant drink that will probably appeal to those who enjoy sweeter and easier-to-drink concoctions. Once again, very smashable.
Smashable drinks, great bar food, fun vibe, and the most stylishly IG-worthy aesthetics? Perhaps this is another bar that fun-loving bar-hoppers should consider adding to their bucket lists.
