Home-based butter atelier Borderlessbutter opens first physical cafe in Ang Mo Kio with new dine-in menu

LeAnn Lee | October 13, 2026

If you’re all about that butter, you might have heard of Borderlessbutter — an artisanal butter atelier run by 29-year-old Arden Zhuo, known for churning out unique sweet- and savoury-infused butters inspired by her travels.

After almost three years of running Borderlessbutter primarily as an online business, Arden decided to take the plunge and opened a brick-and-mortar cafe at Sprout@AMK.

Arden continues to run Borderlessbutter as a one-woman show but does get additional help when running workshops.

Sprout@AMK is an incubator space for small local businesses, supported by Enterprise Singapore, which provides mentorship with relevant industry professionals. It opened in September 2025 and provides businesses a physical space they can call their own for subsidised rent .

The cosy space located in the heart of Ang Mo Kio takes on a modern cafe interior with soft wooden accents. While Borderlessbutter itself has limited indoor and outdoor seating, the wider Sprout@AMK offers additional seats across the space.

Brand new dine-in menu

For the new space, Arden has gone beyond her usual bread-and-butter of making butters to creating an extended dine-in menu, featuring 15 drink options and four types of loaded sandwiches.

Her love for experimenting with new flavours certainly shines through!

The highlight for us was definitely the weekend-exclusive loaded sandwiches.

Made in-house using ciabatta bread, each sandwich stayed crisp on the outside and light and airy on the inside, without becoming soggy from the filling.

If you love your sandwiches fully loaded to fuel you up for the day, you’d want to go for the Seoul stack (S$14.90).

We loved that the distinct flavours from each ingredient came together cohesively: The tanginess from kimchi, the saltiness from spam and cheese, and even an extra crunch from crispy hashbrowns.

If you’re not super big on spice, not to worry — the heat here leans mild and is slightly quelled by the cheese.

Seafood lovers will want to head for the sriracha tuna melt (S$13.90).

Reminiscent of classic tuna sandwiches, this elevated version is slathered in a creamy spread of tuna chunks and sriracha, topped with cheese — a surprisingly umami option, thanks to the briny tuna.

Get a taste of Arden’s famous butters in sandwich form by going for the smoky maple chipotle tamago sando (S$8.90), which uses her smoky maple chipotle butter, and the mala kani tartine (S$9.90), which incorporates XO mala butter.

Beyond the basic brew

The spunky flavours of the daily drink menu are primarily split into three types of drinks: coffee, matcha, and refreshers.

We went for the yuzu pistachio cloud matcha (S$8.90) — a creamy concoction featuring a matcha base made with ceremonial-grade matcha from Mie, Japan, topped with a fluffy yuzu pistachio cold foam.

Notes of zesty yuzu paired with the earthy matcha base made for a refreshing first sip, followed by a nutty aftertaste from the pistachio that had us going back for more.

Caffeine-lovers should make a beeline for the salted French cream cold brew (S$7.50) — a medium roast cold-brew base with dark chocolate notes, and a velvety sea salt cream on top.

For more familiar flavours, Borderlessbutter also has a strawberry matcha latte (S$8.50) and black (S$6) or white (S$7) cold-brew for your daily fix.

Get a taste of its famous butters

Borderlessbutter’s playful and unique butter flavours remain its heart — you can now sample and purchase on the spot!

Armed with a plain cracker in hand, Arden took us through a tasting experience of her full range of butters, from the sweets to the savouries.

From the savouries, our favourites were the umami chunky miso shiitake butter (from S$19.90) infused with actual mushroom bits, and the peppercorn-laced XO mala butter (from S$21.90) with that quintessential lingering numbness.

If you prefer sweet flavours, we’d go for the sweet and herbaceous whipped strawberry basil butter (from S$23.90) or the floral whipped earl grey butter (from S$23.90), which would be perfect with a cup of tea.

As Borderlessbutter settles into the swing of things, Arden has started using the space to introduce new activities, such as butter-making workshops and to introduce Borderlessbutter to new faces in the Ang Mo Kio community.
