Good hideout

We usually buy food from Sembawang Hill Center, or eat at Ivin's yet we somehow miss spotting this place. We were taking a stroll last Sunday when we discovered this place tucked in a quiet lane.
I like the casual feel of this place (i dun feel as intimidated as when i'm at the casuarina prata place), it's 24 hours and it even has its own website to boot.
We ordered a Maggi Goreng, a Sardine Murtabak, a butter chicken, a plain naan, a garlic naan and 3 lime juices.
The maggi goreng was very tasty, not oily, but a tad salty.
The Sardine Murtabak was great! the prata over it was really thick, moist and soft, and it really went well with the sardine filling! The curry that came with it was alright, nothing to shout about, but very suitable for people who can't take spicy stuff (like me!).
The butter chicken was good, it went really well with the naans. Wished they would give more gravy though. After munching through half a naan with the gravy, i felt really really thirsty, think the whole combo is too dry...
Garlic Naan had a hint of butter, more than garlic, but still very good.
There was a promotion for fish head curry with free half tandoori chicken and 2x lime juice for only $21. Plan to try that or maybe more pratas next time i go, yum!

Must Tries: Murtabak

Great service!

Been there twice. First time, was on a Saturday. Tried the "daily special" the lamb shank and momo, while my guy had the chicken chowmein (yes, it's spelt this way on the menu). The lamb shank was very good, with the meat falling off the bones, and the mashed potato that came with it was heavenly! They also added sweet and juicy white radish (or some other veg), into it, blended really well. Both the momo and seafood chowmein had a distinct spice flavour, i do not know what the spice is called. But overall, very unique taste.
On the second visit, again we ordered the momo, but this time it looks redder, thankfully tasted the same. We also had the baked mussels as appetizer, Very Nice!!
However, our main courses were a bit disappointing. My friend didn't like her carbonara spaghetti, she thought it tasted weird. Then another one tried the lobster with fish. According to her, the lobster was quite tasteless, kinda like frozen kind, fish so so, but she loved the mashed potato. Another friend had the steak with sausage. Despite ordering medium rare, it was almost well done with a sliver of redness inside, so was really dry. She didn't fancy the sausage either. I had the spaghetti with fish (white sauce w mushrooms), I liked it but it was a bit jelat after eating half the dish..
The prune cake as the dessert of the day was nice, good firm texture, not too sweet....My guy had the breaded chicken with spaghetti, the good thing about it was that they didn't give breast meat, but the thigh part which was juicier.
The service staff here are genuinely nice, refilling water for you without prompting, always smiling and helpful, never stingy with giving out serviettes and sauces.
For good steak, probably you should go to Uno's, but if you want great service with value for money grub, go to Tim's

Must Tries: Momo, braised lamb shank, mussels!

Nice place

Went there with 5 other friends, got the window seats. Very nice view of Clarke Quay. The decor was like a country-side home, well suiting the name Ma Maison,,
2 out of the 3 staff we encountered, spoke japanese accented english, very cute.
We ordered escargot, clam chowder, assorted sausages, curry rice, squid ink pasta, tonkatsu set, omu rice w brown sauce and omu rice w white sauce.
Escargot was seasoned with butter and garlic, rather well done, garlic not overpowering as some other establishments would do it..clam chowder was tasty too, with bacon bits (i think). The assorted sausages wasn't memorable though, neither was the curry rice.
I found the omu rice with brown sauce an interesting mix of tastes. Savoury brown sauce on the outside, slightly sweet ketchup coated rice wrapped inside an omelete. I enjoyed it but wish there were more ingredients though.
The omu rice with white sauce on the other hand tasted like what you would expect from a white sauce pasta. I liked it, as it had chicken bits inside, unlike the one with the brown sauce which was just rice, egg and sauce.
The squid ink pasta was good in a subtle way. Not too oily, spaghetti was cooked just right, not too soggy nor hard. Taste wise, good. It's however not for people used to tomato based pasta though.
Dessert menu was rather sad though, think only 4 items, so we didn't try that...

Must Tries: Escargots, squid ink pasta

I love it!

The last time I was there was 5th Nov, so I can't remember exactly what I ate, think was a half portion of chicken curry with rice which was delicious. It came with a miso soup. I thought it was alright but my guy thought it was a bit bland.
We also had the japanese salad. Although tasty, I found it slightly overpriced.
I've been there twice for dinner, what I like about this place is the location (not too crowded), the music, the high ceiling. I also like that they included half portions catering to small eaters like me.
The staff was alright, nothing to shout about, but I'm happy.
I had a look at the dessert menu but wasn't impressed. Wish they can have more Japanese themed desserts...
I also wonder that's the difference between the Moon River side and the Curry Favor side. Both times the waitress led us to the Moon River side *scratch head*

2 Short Street, Singapore
Blah Service

Went there on a Friday afternoon. The tables outside were all taken, lady suggested we go to the air-conditioned area upstairs. There was a narrow winding staircase up, and one lady in their uniform was standing halfway up the stairwell, presumably to direct people. As this was our first time going up, we were unsure of the way. On our left, a closed door, on our right an open area and we could see a washroom towards the end. We walked towards the open area, and got told off rudely by the lady at the stairwell.
When we finished eating in the air-con area, and tried to push the door out to leave, i found i could barely open it as there were pails placed behind the door, blocking it. As our hands were sticky from touching the beancurd containers, we wanted to wash our hands at the washroom we saw earlier. The moment we stepped in, this lady went rudely "Zo mo?!" ("what are you doing/want?!"). I said nicely that we wanted to wash our hands and she waved us off saying angrily "Cannot, cannot!".
The food here is alright, but the service is terrible! I also strongly believe the air-conditioned room is a fire hazard.
Next time I'll go to the stall next door, I've tried it before, food is of equal quality and I have not encountered such rude service.
