Getting more disappointed each time I go

The buffet here has been one of my favs for the past few years. So far, been there twice this year, the first being in august and the second time just this month. I've always findly remebered this place as one that serves great local fare and great durian pengat!

During august, there was a promotion in line with the national day celebrations. The spread was fantastic and the food quality was above average (like how I remember this place).

However, in this recent trip, disappointed does not even describe the experience. The spread was PATHETIC and the quality, hmmmmmm.. The oyster bar was perpetually not replenished (leaving a few "mutilated" ones), the shark's fin soup (I estimating 3 strands of fin per bowl of soup) tasted like a starch overdosed soup, cutlery and utensils were "out of stock" at the buffet lines, etc, etc. It was pretty embarrasing for me cos it was a farewell dinner and I had recommended this place.

On both trips, I realised that the restaurant is severely understaffed. Add to this, the limited number of staff were also mostly "LMITED" in their language. No offence but I felt that I was a foreigner eating in this place. Let me cite an example... I really wanted to order and coke and it took me a good 3 minutes of standing on the chair and waving my arms like a madman (ok, fine, I made this up) to get attention from the servers. "can I get a coke please?", I asked. What I got in return was a confused look and a reply in mandarin, "Do you speak mandarin". I was in half a mind to pretend I don't by this time and reply in french "Non, desolee, Je ne comprend pas. Vous Parlez Francais?" However, I was really thirsty and gave in. Initially, I thought it was a one off case, but when I looked around.... enough said.. On the second trip there, I confirmed this again when I asked one of the "chefs" what something was... I saw the same confused look and I said.. "Nevermind"..

Read some of the other reviews which reported about slow service. I absolutely agree.. My collegues and I could build a mini mountain of plates on the table! Honest! Ask me about if the glass of water on the table was half full or half empty, and my reply would be.. "It's ALWAYS empty!!"

I figured I might give this place one last try (maybe in half a year's time) for "old time's sake". I mean, I did have many wonderful years of dining here. However, to those intending to go soon.. yoi have been warned....

Must Tries: Durian Pengat, Bak Kwa
